Care Instructions for Tadelakt

General Description:
Tadelakt is a Moroccan render technique: a special lime is applied as render and compressed with stones so that a shiny surface emerges. The lime material is not only used for inside and outside walls, but also for floors, bath tubs, showers, table surfaces and mainly in Hamams.

Cleaning:
Stainings can be washed off with hand warm water and some Marseille soap (approx. 1-2 table spoons in 8l water) and a soft cloth or sponge. We suggest to wipe off splash water after having a bath or taking a shower to avoid calcifications from the water drops.
It has to be avoided in either case that commercially available household cleaner, scouring agents, scouring sponges, acid containing agents, or similar are used. These products corrode the Tadelakt or the soap! Acid containing fruit juices like orange or lemon juice, as well as wine and vinegar may damage the surface. Only highly refatting olive oil soap – Marseille soap are suitable as cleaning and care product.

Product care:
The complete surface should be brushed with smoothing soap or the smoothing soap should be applied with a soft sponge one week after completion of the Tadelakt. The remaining streaks can be polished away with scrunched up plastic foil (“sizzling foil” made of HDPE is ideal) after the drying phase.
This treatment should be repeated approx. every two months, depending on the usage. It is possible to use Marseille soap instead of smoothing soap (preparation: dissolve 2-3 table spoons in 2l hot water) for this.

Time Interval:
The cleaning has to take place every two months.
The product care has to take care every two months.

Safety Related Details:
Tadelakt creates a compact, waterproof surface with which even bath tubs, washbasins, showers, etc. can be lined permanently. The amount of 12.5kg (corresponds to one bucket) is sufficient, according to the manufacturers’ instructions, for approx. 2.5 square meters, if it is applied with a thickness of 5mm.
Tadelakt can be stored for 24 months after the date of delivery. It may be stored for 2 months in a closed bucket if it has already been mixed with water.
